I get the same sort of thing, since my counter at work is situated near all the computer accessories, customers generally assume I know all (I can proudly say I don't, but I can sound like I do) so when they bring me up a Dvd+r and ask me if it will work in their machine, they tend to be shocked to the point of confusion when I tell them I wouldn't know, I'd have to have physical access to their machine, so I can see what that little logo says.
It's the same thing when people come up and just tell me they need a printer cartridge, no cartridge number, not sure on the printer number, but they know it's a Lexmark and they expect me to know which they need, I always chuckle when they ask for a "black and white" cartridge, one day I plan to tell them I have the black, but the white costs extra and see how they react!
